This cute Downy Woodpecker is soft and fuzzy -- and it sings! This is the smallest woodpecker found in North America. It is common throughout much of the United States and Canada, and can often be seen around dead trees or telephone poles. Like other woodpeckers, it taps its beak like a drum as a territorial display. It eats a variety of insects and their larvae, and some berries and seeds. Birdfeeders with suet or peanut butter also attract this woodpecker.
The lifelike design and detailing is the result of input from the National Audubon Society. The authentic bird song is from the world famous Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
