This cute California Quail is soft and fuzzy -- and it sings! This game bird is the state bird of California. They have black throats circled in white and black plumes (males) on the top of their heads. Most of their time is spent at ground level, seeking out vegetation, seeds and nuts. It is not uncommon to see large groups, or coveys, of close to 100 of these WatchList birds. Nests are usually hidden at ground level, but may be made in trees.
The lifelike design and detailing is the result of input from the National Audubon Society. The authentic bird song is from the world famous Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
