Bird Songs in Cuba audio CD
The Cuban Archipelago is home to an enthralling diversity of birds, some endemic, others winter migrants from North America. The calls and songs of more than 130 species are presented in this 2-CD set. Brand new recordings from recent excursions to Cuba are included in this re-release of the original 1988 record albums. From swamps, plains, woodlands, and rainforest you’ll hear the voices of Cuban Solitaire, Zapata Wren, Cuban Pygmy-Owl, the tiny Bee Hummingbird, and much more. Studies of endemic Cuban birds offer a rich field, not only of vocalizations, but also of little known life histories for many of the species. This two CD set contains songs, calls, and other sounds of resident migratory birds endemic to the Republic of Cuba, including the principal Island of Cuba, the Isle of Youth, and more than 1,6000 keys and islets of the Cuban Archipelago. Areas visited consist of all the main habitats of the Cuban Archipelago: lakeshores, swamps, plains, woodlands, and elevations from sea level to some of the higher mountains of eastern Cuba.
In addition to the recordings from Cuba, the production includes several other recordings for study comparison between related species such as the Chuck-will's-widow (Caprimulgus carolinensis) and the Greater Antillean Nightjar (Caprimulgus cubanensis). Birds Songs in Cuba also contains recordings of supplementary sequences from outside Cuba, including the Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) from the Dominican Republic, the Bee Hummingbird ( Mellisuga helenae), and the Northern Mockingbird ( Mimus polyglottos).
