This guide to the birds of the Middle East and North Africa includes all known breeding, wintering, migratory, and accidental species in the region, from Morocco to Iran and Arabia.

Of over 700 species covered, 350 are illustrated in 40 full-color plates, and where appropriate there are several paintings of a species to show plumage differences of sex, age, race, and season. In addition there are over 100 line drawings as aids to identification in the text.

The species accounts treat identification with special thoroughness. There are also sections for voice, habitat, and status; under the status headings are two-color distribution maps which provide more up to date information than is to be found in any comparable source.

The authors have long assocations with the region, and this distillation of their knowledge and expertise (together with that of numerous correspondents and others) has provided a much needed guide of unequalled excellence.
